A proposed statue of UK jazz legend George Melly that will be constructed in Brecon has moved one step closer to conception, it has been revealed.
Plans for the building of the posthumous statue are set to be put together and submitted to sculptors as a brief, claims fundraiser Elizabeth Jeffreys.
Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Ms Jeffreys explained why the Melly statue would be such a significant addition to the landscape of his adoptive town.
She told the newspaper: "We want it to reflect all of George's passions his love of fishing, what he called his 'mistress', jazz, and his interest in contemporary art.
"He lived here for 20 years and he brought such colour and eccentricity to the town."
George Melly died of lung cancer and emphysema at the age of 80 in July 2007.
In addition to being one of the country's most renowned jazz and blues singers, Melly also wrote for the Observer and was a lecturer on art history.
