The Manchester Camerata have appointed the Hungarian musician Gábor Takács-Nagy as their next musical director. He will take over from Douglas Boyd in September next year.
Takács-Nagy is no stranger to chamber-sized ensembles. He was a founder member of the Takács Quartet in 1975 and later went on to found the Takács Piano Trio and the Mikrokosmos String Quartet.
His transition to conducting began in 2001, and in 2007 he was appointed music director of the UBS Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra.
By the end of next year, Douglas Boyd will have led the Manchester Camerata for ten years, a collaboration widely heralded as the most successful in the orchestra’s history.
