A behind-the-scenes peek at the preparations for a New York Philharmonic orchestra concert will kick off a series of performances led by Lorin Maazel next month.

The Open Rehearsal: Bach, Haydn, Copland and Bolero event on June 4th - followed by the live concert later that day - will mark the beginning of the end of Maazal's tenure at the New York Philharmonic.

One of classical music's most celebrated conductors, Maazal has led more than 150 orchestras in more than 5,000 different performances.

He began in his current role in September 2002 and has taken the orchestra to concerts across the globe including North Korea.

Maazal's farewell schedule includes performances of Benjamin Britten's War Requiem on June 11th, 12th and 13th 2009.

The conductor will finish the month with four consecutive nights leading the orchestra in a performance of Gustav Mahler's Symphony of a Thousand between June 24th and 27th.
