An exhibition opens today at the Handel House Museum in Mayfair dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, who lived next door.
Hendrix is known to have developed an interest in Handel as a result of the coincidence, and his record collection included The Messiah and the Water Music.
The exhibition includes a range of memorabilia from the guitarist's time in London, including his 1968 work permit, an elaborate self portrait and playbills for many of his UK gigs.
The Jimi Hendrix connection has been somewhat neglected by the museum in recent years; his flat has been, and continues to be, used as administrative offices by the museum's staff. 18 September marks the 40th anniversary of the guitarist's death, and the museum is planning to move its office furniture out for 11 days in order to give the public a rare opportunity to visit his former home.
The exhibition 'Hendrix in Britain' runs at the Handel House Museum, 25 Brook Street, London until 7 November.
