Daniel Barenboim, the noted pianist and conductor, has for many years also been praised for his work with the Late Edward Said, the Palestinian-born scholar and activist, who together established the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra in 1999. The orchestra is composed of young musicians from Israel, Palestine, and other Arab countries. Most recently Barenboim performed in Gaza, where he proclaimed "I am a Palestinian ..… and an Israeli. So you see it is possible to be both."
