The Vale of Glamorgan Festival, an annual event in South Wales dedicated to the work of living composers, has announced that Arvo Pärt will be attending this year's event.
Pärt's music will be the focus of this year's festival, which runs 5 – 11 September. His 75th birthday falls on the 12th, and will be celebrated at events around the world.
The Festival has commissioned a new work from the composer. 'In spe' will be premiered by the BBC National Orchesta of Wales at Hoddinott Hall in Cardiff on 9 September with the composer in attendance. He will also attend a performance by the Amsterdam Cello Octet at St Donats Castle the previous day, which will include the UK premieres of his works 'Psalom' and 'O-Antiphonen'.
